My skepticism was proven wrong.
I’ll admit that I was skeptical about virtual therapy at the beginning of the pandemic.
I was afraid I would lose connection with my clients, both emotional connection and internet connection.
I worried it would be too hard to read body language. However, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how effective online therapy can be, and research shows that it is as effective as in-person therapy.
Working online has benefits for you.
Some of the pros of online therapy are cutting down on travel time. You decide when and where is best for you. You can now make time for a session during your lunch break without spending half an hour traveling each way.
Clients sometimes cancel sessions for traffic, inclement weather, childcare issues, or mobility challenges when travel is required. Teletherapy eliminates all those problems.
Virtual therapy also allows me to work with people all over New York State who can’t commute to NYC for a weekly therapy session.
Online therapy allows you to be in your space, in comfy clothes, and maybe even from your bed. Depression and anxiety can make it hard to get up and go places. Now, you don’t have to worry!
Requirements for online therapy are minimal.
All you need is a quiet, private space where you can be free of interruptions for the length of the session. You also will need a device that connects to the Internet and reliable WiFi.
Once you finish your session, you’re free to process what we talked about, relax, or make dinner, rather than dealing with the stress of fighting traffic or navigating the subway system.
If we decide we are a good fit and want to work together, I’ll send you an invitation via email to set up your client portal on a secure server. You’ll fill out my new client paperwork and be able to click on a link to join our scheduled sessions on a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
Don’t worry if you’re not tech-savvy; I’m not, but I’ve figured it out. We’ll make it work together.
